Instructions

    • 1

Create an opportunity by performing a drop shot. Your opponents return should set you up for a smash. Set yourself firmly and in balance so you are ready to jump when the shuttlecock clears the net.

    • 2

Time the jump so that the shot is placed ahead of your body and so that with your arm fully extended, the shuttle will be placed just higher than the center line of your racket.

    • 3

Jump by driving up with the arms. This generates additional power into the jump and gets your arm into striking position for the smash. Keep your arm open so that your elbow points away from the body rather than forward as you launch.

    • 4

Smash the shuttle at a downward angle. Aim so that the angle is as sharp as you can make it as the shuttle clears the net.

    • 5

Follow through smoothly and land in a balanced position with your weight forward on your feet. That way, you're ready to play immediately if the shot is returned.
