How to Cut and Drop in Badminton

A "cut and drop" in Badminton is a hitting technique that can make a shot that is difficult for an opponent to receive and return. Cuts shots are created with a wrist technique, and the faster the cut is made, the faster the shuttle will drop. You can improve your offense by incorporating this technique into both your forehand and backhand shots.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold a badminton racket with your dominant hand. Grip the racket about halfway up the handle, with your four fingers wrapped around the handle and your thumb securing the grip. Begin practicing the cut-and-drop shot by throwing the shuttle up to yourself with your other hand.

Turn your body perpendicular to the net. The shoulder from the arm that is not holding the racket should be closest to the net. Keep your knees bent slightly, with a little more weight on your back foot.

    • 3

Bend the elbow of the arm that is holding the badminton racket. Throw the shuttle up to yourself if practicing, or receive it from an opponent. Make contact with the shuttle when it is high above your head, at the top of your reach.

Keep you wrist locked when you first contact the shuttle, and swing the racket to hit the shuttle. Slightly flick your wrist at about mid-swing so that the shuttle cuts at a diagonal toward your opponent, and then deceptively drops quickly.
