- Stationary Smashing (Take at the highest point, step forward your racket leg and go at full strength).
- Stationary defense (Remember to step forward if you are lifting or tapping, take all shots at the front).
- Front wrist work (Bring the shot in downwards motion, and keeping your racket control to small swing).
Hitting against the wall

Doing wall practice on sunday to warm up my wrist
- This exercise may seems challenging to most, but it’s a great exercise once you overcome the odds. Start of slow and make sure your racket is in front of you. Relax your grip, so you can switch to the forehand and backhand grip.
- Remember to bend your knees (lower your body) for better reflex and anticipation. And take the shots at the earliest point.
This practice is very essential even top professional players still do this exercise.
Benefits of doing this practice.
- Increase reaction time
- quick movement of wrist
- fast change of grip
Wrist movement mainly depends on how good your racket is these are the rackets which i recommend for a badminton player
Practice to improve net shots
Start juggling shuttle in open space that is hitting it up continually on racket face as well as adhering to the principle of hitting the shuttlecock lightly also try to control the direction of shuttlecock to improve control ability.
Also The mental game is something you can train by yourself by watching Pro matches and badminton practice videos of professional players, on YouTube. which is very important so consider watching matches of top badminton players and try to find what they are doing differently to win matches, it will give you an idea about level of competition in badminton world which will motivate you to push harder to achieve something great in your life.
Physical Exercises which you can do at home

There is no excuse you can give to yourself on not doing physical training each town has some kind of playground where you can do your workout, lots of player lose their game just because of there physical level, you can build you physical by doing different types of exercise which will help you to increase stamina, strength, agility etc. which is very crucial in badminton.
To be honest i was a kind of player who have the skills to beat my opponents but there was lack of physical fitness in result i was not able to perform to the fullest during the whole match.
What i am trying to say that even if you don’t have the skills, top class players to practice with their is no excuse you can give to yourself that you physical fitness is not as good as those players who are practicing on court by paying high class coaching fees.
Here is rough idea of workout at home of a badminton player
Cardio:- Jumping jacks, Burpee, Mountain climber etc.
Leg exercise :- Lunges , squats , wall chair etc.
Disclaimer:- Every body is different don’t force your body too much, Every thing takes time to show result.
These number are a standard which a badminton player needs to achieve if he/she wants to compete on top level tournament. In addition you can do gym, agility exercise to develop speed and strength.
Why skipping
Most of the movement in badminton is performed on the toes and what is better to strengthen your toes than by skipping.
But most players get stuck with single skip i would suggest you to learn some variation and one of the most important is double skip this exercise is best if you want to improve your jump while smashing.
Other variation can be single leg, high knees, boxer jumps and so on.
Shadow Practice
In Badminton Shadow Practice means when you are imitating the basic footwork which you have learned and doing it without shuttle.
It is a great way to brush your footwork so i would recommend you to do session for shadow practice at lest 1 time in a week.
The beauty of this exercise is that you dont need to be in a badminton court, you can do this on your roof (which i used to do when i started as a beginner)

But there are some things which a beginner ignores while performing this exercise
- Always try to visualize what shot you are making, for example , if you are doing backcourt forehand shadow visualize the shot which you are making and accordingly change you footwork and racket swing speed.
- Always look at the shuttle (visualize) meaning that if you are doing shadow from net area to backcourt instead of looking straight or at the your feet(which most beginners do) looking up and imagine that an actual shuttle has been lifted to you.
- Focus on increasing speed of your set only when you have reached an intermediate level of footwork otherwise it will going to impact your game negatively.
