How to Make a Kid's Glove Soft

One of a kid's first sports memories may be owning his very first glove. However, part of owning a glove requires several responsibilities, including breaking it in. Breaking a glove in includes forming a well-defined pocket, making it comfortable for the player and conditioning it. Use oil to condition the glove, so it becomes soft and pliable. Show your kid how to soften her glove so that she may repeat the process with newer gloves in the future.

Instructions

    • 1

Condition the glove when you first purchase it or before baseball or softball season begins.

    • 2

Apply a small amount of glove oil to a clean, dry cloth.

    • 3

Work the oil into the glove with the cloth, starting at the inner pocket and working your way out. Rub the oil into the glove in a circular motion. Work in small areas, by allowing the oil to soak into the glove. Then, wipe away the excess with a second clean towel.

    • 4

Keep applying oil to the cloth and working it into the glove until you have covered the entire glove.

    • 5

Bend the glove to keep it loose. Have your child put the glove on his hand and ask him to open and close it a few times to make sure it's a comfortable fit.
