How to Use a Throwing Machine

There is no need to overuse your arm by pitching hundreds of balls for batting practice. Now you can make like a pro and use a pitching machine to do the throwing for you. With so many different models and makers, there is bound to be one you can afford. Pitching machines can be adjusted to multiple speeds and levels, so that you can get exactly the pitch you need.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand the machine on the pitching surface. Make sure the machine is standing on all of its legs and is level.

    • 2

Set the dials of your machine in order to adjust speed and height of pitches. Different devices will have different dials, but some offer a panel of dials that are labeled.

    • 3

Turn the machine on and examine the rotating wheels. Make sure the wheels are correctly spinning as improper spin could lead to stray ball movement.

    • 4

Hold the ball up, before you send it through the machine to the batter. This will alert the player to be ready.

    • 5

Place your ball in the chute above the spinner and let go. Some machines have automatic systems that allow the coach to load a number of balls into the chute and manually launch them or program the control panel to fire a ball every few seconds.
