How to Calculate a Weighted On-Base Average
Baseball is replete with statistics. Two common statistics that evaluate hitting are slugging percentage and on-base percentage. The former is a measure of how many bases the hitter gained per at-bat. The latter is a measure of how often he reached base. The two can be combined into a weighted on-base average.

1
Multiply the number of unintentional base on balls by 0.72, the number of times hit by pitch by 0.75, the number of time the player reached base on an error by 0.92, singles by 0.90, doubles by 1.24, triples by 1.56 and home runs by 1.95.
-
2
Add up all the products from step 1.
-
3
Divide the sum by the number of plate appearances; plate appearances sometimes include bunts and intentional base on balls and sometimes do not, depending on the analyst. The result is the weighted on-base average.
