1
Peel off the old, loose tape -- using a box cutter, if necessary. If any adhesive residue remains on the bat, remove it with a soft cloth moistened with rubbing alcohol.
-
2
Sit in a chair with the bat pressed between your knees, so you can have both hands free, with the handle's end pointing up.
-
3
Pull about 6 inches of tape free, keeping it connected to the roll.
-
4
Start wrapping the bat from the bottom, just above the knob, and wrap it around twice there to secure the tape at that end. Then start working toward the top by angling the tape slightly, pulling it taut as you wrap it. Overlap each layer by about 1/4 inch, and wrap in a spiral motion toward the top of the handle.
-
5
Wind the tape around the bat until you have completely wrapped the handle, covering the same area that the old tape did. Cut the tape with the box cutter at that point, and press on the tape to ensure the cut end adheres properly.
-
6
Repeat Steps 3 to 5 to add a second layer of grip tape, to reinforce the first layer and make the grip thicker.
-
7
Cut a piece of grip tape about 5 inches long. Place it over the cut end of your second layer of tape at the top, and wrap it all the way around the bat to secure your wrapped layers. Your bat will be ready to use immediately, as the tape does not require any drying time.
