Things You'll Need
- Regulation baseballs
- Pitching machine
Instructions
-
-
1
Set a pitching machine to throw regulation baseballs at a speed of at least 45 mph.
-
2
Watch several pitches go by. Position yourself so that when you swing, the balls will hit at the end of the barrel.
-
3
Use a full swing and follow-through for each hit.
-
4
Rotate the bat slightly after each hit to assure every side of the barrel is used evenly.
-
5
Gradually move closer to home plate after each hit, making contact further down the barrel. Continue the slight rotation of the bat after each hit.
-
6
Hit between 100 and 200 pitches. Listen for a loud “crack” when the ball makes contact with the bat. An even sound at all contact points indicates the bat is broken in.
-
7
Rotate the bat and adjust your stance to account for any areas of the bat that do not make a “crack” sound. Continue hitting until the area produces an even “crack” sound.
