How to Improve Quickness in My Basketball Game

Quick footwork can be a vital part to anyone's basketball abilities, whether playing defense or offense. If you can move faster than your opponent, you have a distinct advantage that can easily translate into victory. Although most aspects of the game require a certain skill set or athletic prowess, just about anybody can improve their quickness, regardless of how well they play the game. It's not a magic trick or a gimmick; it's really just a matter of dedication, consistency and strengthening your leg muscles.

Tie or strap each ankle weight around your lower calf, just above the shoeline. They can sometimes chafe against your skin, so it is advised you wear socks that pull at least a quarter of the way up your leg, but it is not essential.

    • 2

Run the length of the court 10 times while wearing the ankle weights to get your blood pumping. Do this before every game, practice or scrimmage.

    • 3

Leave the weights around your ankles for the entire length of each practice or scrimmage and any length of time you wish to wear them in your everyday life. Obviously, the muscles will grow the most when being exercised, but the longer you leave the weights around your ankles, the quicker your feet will move once you remove them.
