Software for Basketball

Sports software has become more prevalent as coaches and players look to gain an edge on the competition. Basketball software exists that can help coaches diagram plays, print them out and even have them acted out on screen by animated computer stand-ins.
  1. Function

    • Basketball software enables coaches to diagram and save plays online. The majority of programs come with built-in plays, or coaches can design and store their own. The playbook tools are easy to use, and easy for players to follow. All plays can be printed out for use during a game.

    Benefits

    • Software for basketball makes plays easier for the players to grasp. This is particularly true for higher-end programs such as Play Manager, which uses animated "players" to simulate the plays on the computer screen. By connecting their computer to a large-screen television, coaches can show an entire team how a play is supposed to be run through the animation sequence.

    Potential

    • With the emergence of hand-held devices as viable methods of data transfer, coaches may soon be able to send plays to players' cell phones and other portable electronic devices, complete with full animation. This will provide players with an alternative to spending hours watching game film, and increases the chance they will study plays outside of practice time.
