How to Keep the Grip on B-Ball Sneakers

Basketball is a game of inches. Each tiny factor, from the temperature of the room to the surface of the court plays a big part in the performance of the players. Just a little extra dust on the floor, or a smooth spot on the player's shoes can cause a lack of traction that results in a slip. A slip can mean a missed shot, or a pulled groin muscle that cost the team the entire game. To avoid these mishaps, it's important that a player takes the time to maximize the grip and traction of their basketball shoes on the court.

Instructions

    • 1

Mix a solution of one part detergent and three parts water in a bucket.

    • 2

Scrub the bottom of the shoe with a stiff bristled brush and the detergent. Dirt and dust build up can affect a shoe's performance on the court.

    • 3

Apply a liquid court grip product to the bottom of clean shoes. Formulas come in spray or roll-on form. Allow the court grip solution to dry before taking the shoes onto the court.

    • 4

Spray the soles of basketball shoes with a layer of hair spray to create a sticky coating for shoes. This is a cheap, last minute quick fix for shoes that are having traction problems.

    • 5

Refrain from wearing basketball shoes off of the court. Outdoor factors, such as asphalt and gravel, dust and dirt will contribute to the wear and tear of the soles of shoes.
