Youth Basketball Drills Free
Here are some youth basketball drills free that were sent to me by Fred and Matt. Try them out with your team tonight!
From Fred…
I coach under 10 year olds.
Here are two basketball drills:
1. 2 lines of players at the baseline, equal distance from the basket. At the whistle the 1st in each line race to the ball. The player that gains possesion is on offense the other on defense.
1 point for a basket, 1 point for a defensive stop.
2. Shooting drill: have a player sit in a chair, non shooting arm behind their back, holding a basketball, using correct form; elbow in (ect.) have them stand and shoot the ball, emphasize follow through, ending with the wrist looking like a goose’s neck. Hold the goose neck to reinforce it’s importance.
From Matt…
I just finished up coaching a second grade team and to get them to concentrate on dribbling without looking at the ball I did this.
I took an empty toilet paper roll and had them wedge it beneath the bottom of their chin to their chest. This forced them to keep their head up and I then had them dribble down the court and back to get used to dribbling without watching the ball.
