Team Basketball Drills – Partner Shooting

This is a fast paced basketball drill I like to use often since it gives the players a chance to get in a lot of shooting (particularly quick release shots) as well as work on rebounding with a quick box and go. These team basketball drills work as well for conditioning also.Team Basketball Drills – Partner Shooting

I call it Partner Shooting.

Players pair up.

One player is the shooter and one the rebounder.
The shooter’s job is to move to a place they want to work on shooting from, get square, receive a pass from the rebounder and shoot quickly. They then move to another spot to shoot from and so on and so on.

The rebounder’s job is to pass the basketball to the shooter when they get square and have hands extended ready to receive the pass. They then do a quick closeout movement toward the shooter (not trying to block the shot just giving them an extended arm to shoot over and a sense of urgency to get off a quick shot). As the shot goes up they do a quick box out and go to get the rebound (the shot may be so quick that they don’t get a full body contact box out but at least a quick turn to box position and go to the rebound). They then pass to the shooter at their next chosen spot and so on and so on.

I do this timed for 30 seconds to one minute and then have the pairs switch jobs. We may do 3 or 4 rounds before going on to another drill. If done correctly and diligently they should be quite tired in a short time so it is a good conditioning drill too.
