A Shimano STX-RC Guide

Shimano is a name synonymous with biking. The company has produced parts for road and mountain bicycles since 1961. Keeping up with all the bike parts made by Shimano over the years can be a challenge.
  1. STX-RC

    • Shimano STX-RC parts were made in the late 1990s as midrange components for mountain bikes. In the Shimano hierarchy of parts, the STX-RC line was considered the fourth-best, behind the XTR, Deore XT and Deore LX lines.

    Components

    • Shimano didn't use the designation STX-RC for any one particular component, but rather for a group of components that were often sold together. The company manufactured derailleurs, shifters, brakes, brake levers and hubs under the STX-RC name.

    Reviews

    • The largest online mountain bike resource, MTBR.com, reviewed several STX-RC components. On the whole, the STX-RC line received a rating of 4 out of 5. STX-RC shifters had been reviewed 64 times, as of February 2011, for a 3.7 rating out of 5. The rear derailleurs scored slightly lower, with a 3.63 rating out of 5, as February 2011.

    Support and Warranty

    • Because of the age of the STX-RC line, Shimano no longer offers any support documents on its website. Warranties on most STX-RC parts had expired by 2011.
