How to Install Seat Cable Locks

A seat cable lock is so called because of the mounts that are placed under a bicycle seat. These locks are made of high-tensile steel that is flexible, allowing you to wrap the lock around the bicycles wheels and frame for added security. Installing these locks is a simple matter of attaching the mounting bracket to the seat stem. This is a task that requires a scant few minutes to accomplish.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

  1. Stem-Removal Method

    • 1

Release the seat stem quick release -- a sliver lever at the seat stem holder on the frame -- or by unscrewing the sleeve at the hex screw with the Allen wrench.

    • 2

Pull the seat stem out of the frame.

    • 3

Slide the circular mounting bracket over the stem and slide it up to the seat. Tighten the mounting brackets hex screws with the Allen wrench. Push the seat stem back into the frame and tighten the quick release lever or hex screw.

    • 4

Push the cable barrel -- where the combination is -- into the mount so the cable is parallel to the frame.

    Wrap-Around Method

    • 5

Unscrew the hex screws or standard screw (depending on model) of the mounting bracket with either the screwdriver or Allen wrench.

    • 6

Push the mounting bracket around the seat stem. Push the hex screws back into the bracket and tighten firmly.

    • 7

Slide the cable lock barrel into the mounting holder so the cable is parallel to the frame of the bicycle.
