How to Cycle With Cleats

Cycling with cleats may seem challenging at first, but after some practice it can be beneficial. Bicycle cleats attach to the bottom of bicycle shoes. The cleats have a clip-in mechanism that attaches to the pedals of your bike. While riding, your feet don't slip off the pedals, resulting in a consistent, powerful pedal stroke. Whether you're a competitive cyclist or a mountain biker, cleats can enhance your cycling experience.

Slide one foot forward over the pedal until you can't slide any further. This means that the front of the cleat connected with the pedal. Push down with your foot until you hear a clicking sound, which indicates that the cleat has attached itself to the pedal. Connect your other cleat in the same manner.

Detach the cleats if you have to stop or get off your bicycle. Move the heel of one foot outward at a 45-degree angle. The cleat automatically releases itself. Release your other foot in the same manner.
