How to Adjust the Marzocchi Z2 Bam

The Marzocchi Z2 Bam is a mountain bike suspension fork popular on some older bikes. By today's standards, it is a little archaic; most modern forks use an air cartridge to control the fork's damping, rather than the springs used by the Z2. This, however, does not mean that there is anything wrong with the Z2. Marzocchi forks are good quality and can easily be adjusted to a rider's preference with a few turns of a knob.

Adjust the spring preload on the fork by turning the knob on the right of the fork clockwise. This knob is by default set to the farthest counter-clockwise position, meaning there is little preload on the springs. The preload is the amount of movement allowed to the fork's internal springs. Heavier riders will need less preload, while lighter riders will need more preload.

Screw the rebound adjustment screw on the right side of the fork to decrease the rebound. By default, this screw is set all the way out to allow for fast rebound. Screwing the bolt into the fork will slow the rebound down, meaning the fork will not compress up and down as quickly.

Ride your mountain bike on a trail you are familiar with. Bring your screwdriver with you and adjust the rebound and preload knobs as necessary during the ride. This will help you optimize the fork's performance.
