How to Find the Center of Gravity of a Bowling Ball

To drill the holes of a bowling ball to meet the bowler's demands, you must first establish the center of gravity of the ball. The center of gravity may not be exactly in the middle of the ball. Each ball manufacturer uses one of two ways to mark the center of gravity of the ball on the surface of the ball for easy identification.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the pin, or plug on the bowling ball. This is marked by a colored dot for newer high-end bowling balls. The center of gravity is located away from the pin on most ball types.

    • 2

Find the punch mark on the surface of the bowling ball. This punch mark sits above the center of gravity of the ball.

    • 3

Locate the bowling ball logo if no punch mark is present. Manufacturers that do not use the punch mark technique place the logo directly above the ball's center of gravity.
