How to Curve a Bowling Ball Without Using Finger Holes

Learning how to curve a bowling ball by removing specific fingers from the finger holes can be done with the right technique and enough practice. The first step is learning which fingers to remove from the ball and how to position your fingers for an effective strike. Once you learn to curve a ball properly, you can begin to make more difficult shots. Curving a ball without using the finger holes is a more effective method than rolling with all of the fingers in place and attempting to aim for one particular pin.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the bowling ball using your normal fingering with the thumb in the thumbhole and the index and middle finger in the front two holes.

    • 2

Remove your thumb from the bowling ball and slide the ball down so that the ball is resting on your forearm with your hand curved around the ball.

    • 3

Move the ball slightly to the left side of your forearm so that the ball is slightly off center on your forearm.

    • 4

Pull your arm back and hook the ball by thrusting the ball forward. Let the ball fall off your middle fingers. Practice until you get an appropriate hook, also known as a curve.
