Bowling Center League Ideas

To grow your bowling center business, create leagues that wow your customers by bringing together people of all ages and personalities. Bowling leagues should be appropriate for you, your center and your customers, so use a list of theme ideas as a base you can modify and improve upon.
  1. Age Themes

    • Reach out to the full spectrum of your patrons with age-themed leagues. Pick a decade of ages such as "Thirties" or "Sixties" and require that team members be within that age range. Attract youth groups by creating "Teenagers" or "College Kids" leagues. You could mix age groups within the league or hold just-for-fun exhibition games between them, such as teens versus 30-somethings. A multi-league championship would also be a lucrative and fun way to gather bowlers of all ages.

    Gender Themes

    • Give the age-old adage "boys versus girls" a new bowling league twist. Ideally in this theme, an equal amount of female and male teams are registered. Optionally, go with a marital status theme by specifically pitting husbands against their wives or a "singles versus marrieds" match-up. Simple pink and blue uniforms would suffice for the females versus males theme. Have fun with the marital theme by requiring teams to wear full wedding-style costumes during the games.

    Pop Culture Themes

    • Depending on the demographics of your customers, you could create various pop culture leagues such as "Reality Television," or "Favorite Celebrities." Teams could each select a reality television show or celebrity to represent. Themed uniforms, music, lighting and food would personalize the league and attract potential members. For example, the "Reality Television" league could encompass a "Survivor" or "Amazing Race" challenge in which teams have to eat "gross" foods or complete a complicated task before the game. The results of the competitions could decide the game schedule or even add to the team's score.

    Political Themes

    • With a presidential election looming, now is the appropriate time for a Republicans versus Democrats league. Make it interesting by selecting a current topic the two parties are debating. The teams would not just be competing for the championship but also for the chance to win the argument. You could also use the games to have a presidential prediction poll. Each winning team scores one point for its respective political party. If your patrons are not intensely political, ask teams to design uniforms that feature the appropriate party colors and mascots.
