1
Determine whether you use a stroker or cranker bowling style for delivering the bowling ball. The stroker style is a traditional swing where, the shoulders are square with the lane, the backswing is straight and the slide occurs simultaneously with the swing. The cranker style, is a modern bowling style where, the shoulders are open and face perpendicular to the lane, the backswing is high and the slide occurs before the swing.
-
2
Choose a sole material and slide level that matches your style of delivering the bowling ball. The sole materials, listed in increasing degree of slide, are backskin, oiled-leather, deerskin, chrome and felt. A sole with more slide may fit better with a bowling style, such as stroker, where there is a greater degree of slide in the approach and delivery of the bowling ball.
-
3
Choose a heel material and slide level that match your sole material and bowling style. The heel materials, listed in increasing degree of slide, are rippled, grooved, flat normal and backskin.
-
4
Test the shoes on your bowling lane of choice, going through the full motions of bowling with the appropriate size bowling ball and make adjustments to interchangeable sole and heel materials per your comfort level and preference.
