Taping a Wrist for Bowling

Wrapping a wrist for bowling can help lend support to a tiring or weakening wrist, particularly after a significant amount of successive bowling. It can also be useful in making sure that your release is the same every time, helping you bowl more effectively. Finally, wrapping a wrist is useful following certain kinds of wrist injuries, allowing you to get back to bowling sooner and making sure the wrist isn't re-injured from strain.

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap the wrist with pre-wrap first, starting slightly closer to the hand than halfway up the forearm. Overlap the pre-wrap as you work your way towards the wrist. Wrap once between the thumb and four fingers, and then work your way back down the arm, ending where you began.

    • 2

Tear the pre-wrap from the spool and press it down into the other wrap on the arm.

    • 3

Apply sports tape anchors to hold the pre-wrap in place. This involves making three to four completed loops up the arm and one between the thumb and four fingers.

    • 4

Make an "X" with two to four pieces of sports tape that are slightly shorter than the length from the top to the bottom of the taped area. Bend the wrist slightly forward and attach the tape. This "fan" will keep the wrist from hyper-extending.

    • 5

Wrap sports tape around the ends of the fan to keep them secured. Grip a bowling ball to make sure that the tape job still allows you enough flexibility to go through the routine successfully.
