How to Determine the Finger Size for a Bowling Ball

For a bowler, finding the proper bowling ball is imperative to playing to the best of his ability. Although the weight of the ball is an important factor, another common factor a bowler takes into consideration is the finger size of his bowling ball. If a bowling ball does have the proper size finger holes, a bowler will not be able to bowl at his most efficient level.

Determine the size of your ring finger. You can do this by visiting a jewelry store and asking the store associate to size you for a ring. Some bowling managers or bowling store associates may also be able to size your finger. Many bowling balls come with the size of the finger slots listed on the packaging. Use this information when selecting the appropriate ball if possible.

Test out the finger slots in the bowling ball to make sure the slots are comfortable. Avoid a bowling ball with slots that seem to squeeze your finger, as these balls may not release from your hand the way a correct ball would, which could ruin your bowling. Just as a bowling ball whose slots squeeze your fingers is too small, a bowling ball with slots so wide that you can not feel the sides as your fingers slide in and out is too large. Aim for a bowling ball that allows your fingers to easily grip the inside of the ball, as well as easily exit the slots.

Swing the bowling ball back and forth to get a good idea of how the bowling ball fits on your fingers. If the slots are too big for your fingers, you will feel that the ball is slipping out of your grip or you may even accidently throw the ball. If the slots are too small for your fingers, your fingers will probably feel pinched when swinging the ball back and forth.
