Drag Car Rear Suspension Information
-
Power
-
The rear suspension of the drag car is important as it allows a driver and their team to calculate the position where power is applied to the vehicle from the rear suspension. The location of power being passed to the vehicle is known as the instant center. If the rear suspension is positioned incorrectly, the application of power can cause the rear of the car to lift or squat.
Ladder
-
The most common form of rear suspension found in drag racing is the ladder bar, a triangulated bar with two attachments positioned at the rear axle. The ladder bar is limited in its use as it does not allow a large number of positions for the rear suspension.
Springs
-
The type of springs used in the rear suspension of a drag car are important as they can change the number of positions for the suspension. Leaf springs are used in faster forms of drag racing as they increase the number of positions into which a rear suspension can be positioned.
