Car Race Tracks in Oregon

Oregon has a few car racetracks to choose from, some of which also have motorcycle races. Events at these tracks include drag racing, races for classic American cars, sports car races, events for specific brands of cars like BMWs or Alfa Romeos, and private rentals. Most of the racetracks in Oregon are in Portland or within a couple hours from Portland, which is Oregon's largest city.
  1. Sunset Speedway

    • Sunset Speedway is a clay dirt racetrack in Banks, which is a small town in northwestern Oregon. According to the track's website, its season starts in April and lasts through September. The track hosts street stock racing, pure stock racing, modified car racing, women's racing, four-cylinder-vehicle racing and tracers, which are races for 13- to 15-year-olds. Each of these race types has different rules and regulations for drivers and vehicles, which the Sunset Speedway website lists. There is a $30 fee to enter a race (as of 2010). Spectators can show up and watch individual races for an entry fee, or they can buy season tickets and watch all of the races.

    Oregon Raceway Park

    • Oregon Raceway Park sits in Grass Valley, a tiny town about 130 miles east of Portland. Its road course reaches 2.3 miles and loops around in an irregular shape. According to the Raceway's website, the track has two crossover roads and its narrowest point spans 40 feet. The track's highest altitude is 2,340 feet and its lowest is 2,200 feet. There are campgrounds at the track, but no building shelter. Both cars and motorcycles race on the track (separately). Racers generally rent the track for use, rather than the track hosting spectator events. Renting the track costs $300 per hour, and rentals by the day can end up being cheaper per hour than the hourly rate. At times during the dry season, fire and rescue crews may be required for events, and the racers must provide them. Racers also provide their own standby ambulances (which may be required), towing and catering.
