A member of the prestigious Ivy League and well-known for its academics, Princeton University has a men's lacrosse team that dates all the way back to 1882. Princeton has consistently fielded a competitive team and has won hundreds of games. The Tigers have also been one of the dominant teams in the Ivy League, including eight league titles in the first decade of the 21st Century. It has made many NCAA Division I Tournament appearance and has won multiple national championships on the highest level of collegiate lacrosse. Bill Tierney, who is a member of the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame, won 238 games in 22 seasons during his stint as the Tigers' head coach. Many of Princeton's players have achieved All-Ivy League and All-American status.

Rutgers University

Rutgers is located in New Brunswick and has a well-established men's lacrosse program. The program is one of the oldest in the nation and dates back to the 1890s. Former head coach Tom Hayes led the Scarlet Knights to 21 winning seasons and to final top-20 rankings for 24 straight years from 1975 to 2000. Rutgers was named co-national champions along with Johns Hopkins in 1928. Rutgers surpassed the 500-win mark in 21st century and has produced scores of players who achieved All-American status. As of the summer of 2010, 10 people associated with the program had been inducted into the United States International Lacrosse Association Hall of Fame. Rutgers plays in the Big East Conference, and its nonleague schedule annually features some of the best teams in the nation.

Montclair State University

Montclair State University in the northeastern part of New Jersey, and its program has won regular-season and playoff titles in the Skyline Conference (formerly the Knickerbocker Lacrosse Conference). The program got its start in 1973 and plays its home games on a 6,000-seat synthetic turf field. Montclair State was founded in 1908; it won 304 games in its first 37 years of men's lacrosse and produced many all-league players and Division III All-Americans.
