1
Pull your rubber bat handle grip up over the applicator from the thinner end to the wider base of the cone.
-
2
Form a doughnut shape by rolling it from the thin end of the cone so that the doughnut is formed on the very end of the applicator -- on many cones, there is a different-color ringed area for the user's guidance.
-
3
Place the applicator cone over the handle of your cricket bat. Ease your doughnut-shaped grip off the thicker end of the applicator cone and onto the handle and remove the cone -- your grip should now be a doughnut shape on the bat end of the bat handle.
-
4
Note the small wrap of black tape which holds the lower end of the bat handle tight. Hold your thumb and forefinger around the lowest part of the grip (some choose to bind their handle to the bottom of the handle with tape, as pictured) Gently start to unroll the grip so it fits flush and tight to the bat handle, with no kinks or creases -- creases in the handle can disrupt your batting and can make the bat handle slippy, defeating the purpose of using a grip at all.
-
5
Unroll the grip completely and play a few practice shots with your bat, rolling it around in your hands to warm up the rubber -- this allows the rubber to stretch and adjust, which is an important thing to do prior to cutting away any leftover grip material.
-
6
Try to leave the top end of your bat handle looking clean and professional. Cut away any excess from the top of the handle using a knife (the end opposite the bat). As bats are sold with varying handle lengths but grips are often a standard length, there can sometimes be several inches of leftover handle. Cut the excess material away to prevent the handle getting in the way of your batting (as pictured).
