How to Size a Cricket

Cricket is a popular sport where teams of eleven players take turns attempting to strike a bowled ball with a bat, or to bowl the ball into a set of wickets. Cricket players wear gloves and leg pads, when up to bat to protect themselves from the ball that is being bowled, and a flat-faced bat with a rounded back to hit or redirect the ball. It is important to properly size your cricket gear, for the most comfortable and practical fit.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the height of the player using a tape measure.

    • 2

Select a bat of the recommended size for the player's height.

Players over 5 feet 9 inches, select a full-size bat

Over 5 feet 6 inches, use an academy-size bat

      Over 5 feet 4 inches, choose a harrow-sized bat

      Over 5 feet 2 inches, use a size 6

      Over 4 feet 11 inches, use a size 5

      Over 4 feet 9 inches, use a size 4

      Over 4 feet 6 inches, choose a size 3

      Over 4 feet 3 inches, choose a size 2

Over 3 feet 9 inches, use a size 1 and

      Under 3 feet 9 inches, choose a size 0.

    • 3

Test out bats of the suggested size, before committing to a purchase.

    • 4

Select the shorter and lighter bat, if you are undecided between two bats. Using a shorter, lighter bat allows a player to build their fundamentals, rather than developing bad habits with a bat that is too heavy.

    • 5

Hold potential leg pads up against the leg of the player. If the knee fits the knee bolster comfortably, the pads fit. If the knee is too low, you need smaller pads, too high and you need bigger pads.

    • 6

Buy gloves which fit now, not gloves the player can grow into. If a thumb run across the palm of the glove results in a large crease of leather at the end of the rub ,then a smaller size is required.
