How to Open a Seiko Diver Watch

Any serious scuba diver does not leave home without a diver watch. Seiko manufactures a widely-popular line of diving watches. They are optimized for easy legibility underwater, and are highly resistant to extreme water pressure. However, Seiko diving watches are not invincible. From time to time they do malfunction, and may need some minor repairs. Making any repairs to your Seiko watch requires opening the watch's back cover.

Instructions

    • 1

Position the watch face down in your palm or on a flat surface.

    • 2

Determine the type of back cover your watch uses. Most Seiko diving watches use either a pressurized back or a screw-on back.

    • 3

Unscrew the screw-on back from the diver's watch by attaching a case back opener to the back cover. This is a three-pronged tool that allows you to grasp the cover. Align the three prongs onto the three notches of the back cover. Hold the watch firmly in one hand and turn the watch back counterclockwise until it is completely removed from the watch.

Pry off the back of your watch if it has a pressure-back cover. Insert a flat-head screwdriver into the little notch on the back cover and pry the back cover up and off.
