Capacity

The capacity of a tank is how much liquid the tank can contain. For example a 12-liter tank contains 12 liters of water, but can hold a lot more air when the air is compressed in the tank.
Working Pressure

The working pressure of a tank is how much air it can hold under pressure. For example, most scuba tanks have a working pressure of around 3000 psi. Exceeding the working pressure of the tank greatly can cause the tank to rupture, which can be extremely hazardous.
Material

Air tanks are constructed from steel or aluminum. Aluminum cylinders are normally lighter but have thicker walls, while steel cylinders can hold higher working pressures with thinner walls due to the strength or the metal.
Dimensions

The dimensions of an air tank include the radius, height and weight of the tank when empty (it will be heavier when full). Knowing the radius and height is particularly important if the tank is being worn by someone such as a scuba diver or a fireman as it has to be able to be attached to a harness and carried easily.
