How to Net a Lacrosse Stick

An improperly netted, or strung, lacrosse stick can cause loss of ball control, and as athletes know, every play in a game counts. Before netting your stick, take into consideration your position and style of play. For instance, stiff string helps reduce whip while looser-strung pockets work well for beginners and those who play hits or fakes. Once you have decided on the best mesh and stringing style for you, you can get to work on your stick.

Instructions

Pull the mesh to make each hole uniform in diameter. If you're using soft mesh, this is all you need to do. Durable mesh will need repeated stretching. Run durable mesh under warm water to help it stretch easily.

    • 2

Place the mesh so that the rough side is facing away from the front of the stick. Wrap the top row of holes over the frame to meet the fifth row. The second and fourth rows should line up at this point. Ten holes will span the mesh width.

    • 3

Tie one hitch knot with the sidewall string through the top left hole of the mesh. The hole is marked with an arrow.

    • 4

Thread the string through the holes in the scoop to connect the mesh with the scoop. Thread in the opposite direction for the second row after stringing the first row. Tie both end of the string together with a hitch knot to secure.
