Field Hockey Camps for Goalkeepers

Field hockey is a fast game requiring fast reflexes. The position that perhaps best illustrates this is that of goalkeeper. Goalkeepers must be quick on their feet, have agile hands and extremely fast reactions. To be an effective “keeper” also requires much repetition and practice. Many elite goaltenders attend camps where they can get the special training they need to excel.
  1. Future Stars Camp

    • Located on the campus of Gwynedd-Mercy College in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley, the Future Stars camp is the country's largest field hockey camp. The camp offers programs for girls of varying ages and skill levels, from young players to veterans looking to take their game to the next level. Future Stars camps offer daily, specialized training for goalkeepers where they learn about defending corners, penalty strokes and get plenty of practice seeing and stopping shots during drills, short field games and full competition during evening practices.

    Eastern Field Hockey Camp-Goalkeeping Academy

    • Located in the city of Downingtown, a suburb of Philadelphia, in a 127,000-square-foot indoor sports complex, the Eastern Field Hockey Camp offers an academy for goalies. During week-long sessions at the Academy, goalkeepers get one-on-one instruction with an emphasis on both skills and conditioning. Goalies compete during evening tournaments and scrimmages. After the camp is completed, each player receives a written evaluation of her performance. Divisions within the camp range from beginning middle school to advanced varsity high school.

    WMS Goalkeeer Academy

    • Located on the campuses of West Chester University near Philadelphia, Pa., and the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Mass., White Mountain Sports (WMS) offers goalkeeper academies for field hockey goalies. These academies are elite camps open to approximately 40 goalies each. Goalies train on technique, in-game communication skills and decision-making during a game. Goalkeeper academies are held simultaneously with the players’ academies so goalies get as much live action as possible. Players choose between being “day campers” or staying at the dorms on campus.
