Field Hockey Camps in New Jersey

Women’s field hockey has a tradition that stretches back thousands of years and has been a popular sport in England since the 1840s. It has been an Olympic sport since the 1930s and is popular at the amateur level in the U.S. USA Field Hockey reports that more than 19,000 players, coaches and fans are members of the USA Field Hockey Association. Youth camps are held in various areas including New Jersey, which hosts a number of local and national camps.

  1. US Sports Camps

    • US Sports Camps, through Nike, conducts a training camp for field hockey in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, just four miles from Princeton. The camp is held at Lawrenceville School, a college prep school. This is an overnight camp for female field hockey players from junior high and up. Attendees have access to the dorms within walking distance of the sporting facilities. In 2010, the camp was directed by the varsity head coach at the school and a former collegiate player at Princeton University. During the week-long camp players train in all phases of the game, from goaltending to defense.

    Competitor's Edge Field Hockey Camp

    • Held at the campus of Farleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey, The Competitor’s Edge Women’s Field Hockey Camp provides innovative instruction in a unique surrounding. Players of all skill levels are welcomed, and the camp offers special goalkeeping training. Enrollment is limited, so campers will have much individualized attention, enhancing the camp experience. Girls 12 years or older are eligible to attend. The camp experience includes daily skill sessions, scrimmages, regulation games and individualized instruction. Campers have access to the dormitories and all campus athletic facilities. For highly skilled players, the camp will provide an intensive, competitive atmosphere to prepare players for upcoming seasons of field hockey.

    University of Rutgers Field Hockey Camp

    • The University of Rutgers offers team and individualized women’s field hockey camps on its campus in Piscataway, New Jersey. Teams and individuals gain experience through instruction focusing on skill development. The camp is open to players of all skill levels, starting at junior high. Other sessions in the camp focus on game play and scrimmaging; players get feedback on how best to perform specific field hockey skills. Competition is held with daily games leading up to the “Rutgers Camp Championship” on the camp’s final day. This one-week camp is held at the Bauer Track and Field Hockey complex; campers have an option of staying in the dorms or commuting. Teams or small groups can also register.
