How To Play Midfielder In Hockey
-
1
Move quickly and cover a large amount of territory on the field. A midfielder must be able to move into the attack area to help the attackers, and also be ready to drop back quickly if the other team gets the ball. As a midfielder your goal should be to limit the chance for a fast attack by the other team when playing defense.

2
Control your stick when playing midfielder. Quite often the midfielder will get the ball in open space and there is a risk to get sloppy with your stick work. Keep in mind that raising your stick above your waist level is a penalty. This is why you should push the ball when you pass instead of slapping or hitting at the ball.

3
Be aggressive when playing midfielder in field hockey. Sprint to the ball. Endurance is one of the most important skills for a midfielder. Move quickly to the ball and start on the attack as quick as you can. Remember, you are a defender and should assist the attackers in moving the ball up the field.

4
Keep your opponents to the outside of the field when they have the ball. As a midfielder, you don't want your opponents to have a direct line towards the attack circle. Keep them to the outside and this will help your defense players as well as your goalie as the other team moves the ball upfield.
-
5
Always move your feet. This is something that many midfielders forget. A lazy midfielder will get their feet or body hit by the ball because they are not moving quick enough. Remember if this happens the other team gets a free hit, so control your feet and body at all times as a midfielder to avoid the ball.
