Know your equipment. To play offense in field hockey you will use sticks that are 36 to 38 inches long. These sticks are flat on one side and curved on the other. The other piece of equipment is a plastic ball that is slightly larger than a baseball.

Learn the moves. The offense is run by hitting and dribbling the ball down the field. Players may only pass or dribble the ball with the flat side of the stick.

    • 3

Score a goal. Scoring a goal on while on offense is done by shooting the ball past the goal keeper and into the net. Scoring the most goals will win the game.

    • 4

Become a field hockey rules expert, especially in terms of how to score goals. In order to score a goal, players can shot only from a semicircle that begins 16 yards from the goal called the striking circle.

Keep your teammates in mind. Each team can have 11 players on the field and passing the ball to your teammates will help your offense advance down the field and score a goal.

Maintain your cool. A field hockey player must always use sportsmanship when playing offense. Charging, hitting, shoving or tripping an opponent can never be done while on offense as it will result in a personal foul on the player.
