How to Flick in Field Hockey
Instructions
-
-
1
Hold the hockey stick as if you're holding it for a push. The left hand is at the top of the stick in an upside down "V" grip, and the right hand is midway down the handle. Use opposite hands if you're left-handed.
-
2
Position your feet shoulder width apart. Point your left shoulder towards the goal. Straighten your back and bend at the knees.
-
3
Center the ball about a hockey stick's length from the middle of your torso. This is further than is necessary for a push. Place the stick behind the ball and convert the weight to the rear foot.
-
4
Lower your right shoulder and rotate your left wrist towards it. This will open up the stick face.
-
5
Begin the shot by rolling the ball on the hockey stick. Reposition your body weight to the front foot while pushing the ball into the air.
-
6
Wrap the hockey stick around and beneath your left shoulder. This movement should be smooth and precise to execute the flick.
