How to Measure Your Foot Size for Skates

Skates need to fit properly for control and balance. They should fit your foot snugly in all areas except the toe box, which should provide enough room for you to flex your toes. Correctly fitting skates allow full range of motion of your ankles without fitting loosely. Measuring your feet correctly for skates will determine what size you need for maximum performance.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a soft measuring tape on the floor. Stand with the center of one heel aligned with the metal tip of the tape.

    • 2

Place a ruler perpendicular to the toes across the tip of the longest toe. Read the length of the foot in inches on the measuring tape.

    • 3

Repeat this process to measure the length of the second foot. Use the length of the longer foot to determine the correct skate size.

    • 4

Place the tip of a soft measuring tape on the top of the ball of one foot. Lift the foot up and wrap the measuring tape around the foot just below the joint of the big toe and continue around the joint of the smallest toe. The measuring tape should usually be at an angle.

    • 5

Stand on the floor with evenly distributed weight. Read the width measurement where the tip of the measuring tape touches the free end in inches. Measure the other foot's width in the same manner and use the larger of the two measurements for skate width.
