What Size Ice-Skating Shoes Should I Buy?
-
Sizing
-
According to Dick's Sporting Goods, ice skates typically follow normal shoe size. Accordingly, purchase skates the same size as your regular shoes. Consider the width of your foot as well: many manufacturers offer skates specifically for narrow, medium and wide-footed skaters.
Try Them On
-
Unless you're absolutely positive of your size and/or purchasing online, try the skates on before buying. Lace them up completely to get the most accurate feel for the size of the skate. Remember to leave room for foot growth if you're buying skates for children. Also, thin socks are ideal for ice skating so bring or wear a pair to the fitting for the best accuracy.
Warning
-
Improperly sized skates could cause serious risk for injury. Skates that are too tight can cause discomfort, loss of circulation and blistering. Skates that are too big or loose may wobble, giving you less control and increasing the chance of ankle, foot and leg injury.
