How to Build A Frisbee Golf Basket

Frisbee golf, or disc golf, is a game similar to golf that uses plastic flying discs. The discs are thrown at a target, which is made of chains attached to a basket placed above the ground. If the disc hits the chains and falls into the basket, it is a successful putt. A typical Frisbee golf course consists of 18 to 24 targets, but some courses only have nine holes. Build your own baskets to use as targets and save money.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase an umbrella with a wood handle and eight stays. Insert the handle of the umbrella into the end of a 3-foot-long section of 1-inch PVC pipe. Whittle the handle with a sharp knife if it is too large. Wrap tape around the handle if it is too small.

    • 2

Remove the umbrella and open it. Measure 12 1/2 inches from the center of the umbrella with a tape measure and mark on each stay. Cut the stays on the marks with a hack saw. Trim the material to the length of the stays with a pair of scissors.

    • 3

Bend 1 inch of the ends of the stays inward with pliers to form loops.

    • 4

Cut eight 6-inch strips of clothesline. Tie a strip of clothesline to one of the loops. Place the other end of the clothesline in the next loop. Pull it tight and tie. Repeat to tie clothesline between all of the loops.

    • 5

Cut eight 26-inch-long sections of plastic chain. Attach a chain to the umbrella by threading a cable tie through the first chain link and through the loop on the stay. Pull the cable tie tight. Repeat to attach a chain to each loop. Thread a cable tie through the other ends of the chains around the shaft of the umbrella and tighten.

    • 6

Drill a hole in the center of a 24-inch plastic planter saucer with a 1-inch drill bit. Place a 1-inch PVC joint over the hole on the bottom of the saucer. Drill four holes through the joint and the saucer with a 1/4-inch drill bit. Insert a small screw into each hole. Place a nut over the screw ends and tighten.

    • 7

Drill a hole through the side of a plastic tent stake with a 1/4-inch drill bit. Place the stake on the end of the 1-inch PVC pipe so that 6 inches of the stake extends beyond the bottom of the pipe. Mark the location of the hole in the stake on the side of the pipe. Drill a hole through the pipe on the mark. Insert a screw through the hole on the stake and into the hole on the pipe and tighten. Repeat on the opposite side of the pipe with a second tent stake.

    • 8

Push the tent stakes into the ground until the end of the pipe is touching the ground. Place the PVC joint over the top of the pipe. Insert the handle of the umbrella into the hole in the planter saucer, through the PVC joint and into the PVC pipe.
