1
Seek a wooded area to set up your golf course. You want enough trees, bushes and water to make the course challenging but not impossible. The bigger the area, the more holes you can set up. You would like at least four holes but nine holes are desirable. Putting together a course with 18 holes would require a huge expanse of land.

2
Set up your holes. You want to be able to throw the disc a substantial distance for your drive, and then you want to be able to reach the green on your second or third throw. Once on the green, you want to put the disc in the basket.

3
Go to your local driving range and collect all the old baskets that the range no longer has use for. The range owner may charge you a nominal fee--$1 per basket. If there are not available, you can buy these metal baskets at a sporting goods store or golf specialty shop.

4
Cut off the bottom part of the basket with a hacksaw. Your golf ball basket now resembles a metal chain basketball net. Hammer a nail into a 48-inch wooden stake. Place the basket on the nail. Pound that nail down a bit further to make sure the basket is steady and secure.

5
Place that stake in the ground at the spot where you want your hole to be on your disc golf green. This is where you will attempt to throw the disc to complete the hole. It's usually best to put the stake with the basket in front of a tree so you can use the tree to bank in your shot.
