Midfielder of the Season: Notts County’s Rob Milsom

Back in December last season, The Football Lab went to Adams Park to watch Notts County draw 2-2 at Wycombe Wanderers. One of the away side’s stand-out players that day was left-back Robert Milsom.
It was his first start of the season after a long-term injury and one could sense his determination to prove himself. He got forward repeatedly in the first half, had a hand in Adam Campbell’s second half goal and showed true grit to help his side grind out a point after another Liam Noble sending off.
This season, we have seen similar qualities from Milsom, even though he has played in a different role. Better luck with injuries has allowed him to start 30 games this term, the majority in midfield.
Michael O’Connor has been transformed since the appointment of Kevin Nolan, a line that could be attributed to many other players, yet Milsom has been consistent throughout the season. Every game he has worked tirelessly for the cause, whereas the commitment of his teammates under John Sheridan’s reign had been questioned.
Whatever the opposition, situation or position on the field for Milsom, he will battle to the hilt.
