League One tips: Millwall to beat Port Vale to nil?

Neil Harris

Here are The Football Lab’s betting tips for Tuesday night’s League One games.

For the acca

Millwall have kept clean sheets in six of their last seven games. Days when they would leak goals at the back are long gone thanks to the return of key men from injury and centre-back Jake Cooper signing on loan from Reading. Cooper has already formed a formidable partnership with Byron Webster, arguably the most reliable in the division.

Visitors Port Vale beat Millwall in September, but have since won only three games in the league, none of those coming in 2017. Michael Brown’s side have not scored from open play in 211 minutes of football. Theo Streete headed in a corner against Gillingham last time out, but positive comments on that 1-1 draw allude to work rate rather than skill. The Lions have the capacity to match teams for endeavour and go that step further in their ability with the ball. Millwall to win to nil at 11/8

Outside chance

League One’s form team is currently Shrewsbury Town, who have dropped just two points from their last five games. Their squad looks stronger than it did at the turn of the year thanks to a shortened injury list and the additions of forwards Tyler Roberts and Freddie Ladapo.

Toto Nsiala, who struggled at Hartlepool but excelled under Paul Hurst at Grimsby, has recently joined and was immense in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Scunthorpe. Goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler also made one or two impressive stops but this was a deserved win for Salop.

They travel to Peterborough, who have scored two goals in their last four home games. Their only victories since mid-December have come against Port Vale and Swindon, who are both relegation candidates and in the bottom three of the division’s form table over the last 10 games. Shrewsbury might be in a similar in the table but their form suggests they pose a sterner test. Shrewsbury to win to nil at 8/1
