Youth Football Coaching Drills – O-Line Drill
If you need some new ideas for youth football coaching drills, here is an excellent offensive line drill for younger football players. I’ve used this with a team of 8 year olds and it worked well!
It is a simple drill but the kids love it and it teaches them to get up off the ground and go looking for someone else to make contact with while the play is going on.
Youth O-Line Drill
Line the kids up in front a dummy being held by a coach.
On your count they fire off and stay in contact with the dummy while pumping their feet, head up and staying low.
On your whistle the coach holding the dummy will shed off the blocker to the right or the left.
At that time the lineman must seat roll that way and get on his feet quickly and fire out as hard as he can to the next level where I have a coach holding a dummy in the LB position (you will need a coach with a dummy on the Left and Right).
The lineman makes solid contact with that dummy and pumps his feet, keeps his head up and stays low until the whistle blows again.
This teaches them to play to the whistle, continually looking for someone to hit instead of watching the football and to pump their feet upon contact.
