1
Park the cart on a clean, smooth, level surface before you begin work on the cart. Put a rock or wood blocks behind the front wheels to ensure the cart does not roll away. Lift the back of the cart up with the jack to access the brake pads.
-
2
Use a socket wrench to remove the lug nuts from the rear wheels. Be sure to store the lug nuts in a safe place so you can retrieve them later. Remove the wheels so you can access the brake pads. Store the wheels together with the lug nuts.
-
3
Unclip the brake pad clips from the two back wheels. Depending on the age of the golf cart and the last time the pads were replaced, it may require a substantial amount of force to remove the clips. Be careful not to break the clips; you should be able to remove them without destroying them.
-
4
Take out the used brake pads. Once removed, the old pads can be discarded. Replace the old pads with the new pads, and install them in the same place and position as the old ones. When the pads are installed, put the clips back in position so they are holding the pads in place.

5
Put the wheels back onto the cart and secure the lug nuts. Once the wheels are attached, lower the cart back onto the ground. Test the brakes by applying pressure to the brake pedal while traveling on level ground at a very low speed.
