Shopping for an avid golfer is tough. Most people who golf regularly have the essentials covered: a decent set of clubs, a bag, gloves, tees. If you have to shop for a gift for a golfer, it might be best to look at the unconventional. Gag gifts for golfers are widely available, and are even better when they still manage to serve a purpose, so look for funny gifts that are useful, too.

  1. Personalized Anything

    • Most people get a kick out of seeing their name professionally emblazoned on things. Golf bags, scorecard holders, tees, towels and balls are all customizable. If you are looking for a gag gift, have something silly printed on a set of three to five balls. If you want the gift to be fun and functional for years of golfing, stick to a more traditional personalization, like a name, business name or monogram.

    Cooler Bag or Club

    • For the recreational golfer in your life, consider getting a new bag with a built-in cooler compartment. Green fees and cart rentals can be pricey, as are club-tended cocktails. Your golfing friend will appreciate being able to load a 12-pack of ice-cold beverages into his bag for cool refreshments all day on the golf course. Similarly, you can find cooler clubs, which look like the head of a regular golf club when sticking out of the bag, but inside hold up to 48 ounces of your drink of choice.

    Gag Clubs

    • The Big Daddy Driver is one of a few gag golf clubs in production. This club looks like a driver, but has a compartment on the bottom that flips open to reveal a weed-wacker. If your golfer-friend has a habit of hitting his golf balls into the tall grass, he'll give everyone a good laugh when he starts to clear that grass before taking his next shot. Other goofy golf clubs include one that is made with a tiny putting green for using in the restroom, and pure novelty putters in molded plastic that won't hit a ball but will get a laugh on the golf course.

    The Starter Coin

    • If the person you are shopping for usually plays golf in foursomes, the starter coin will help his group decide the order for teeing off. It also comes with a detachable ball marker in the middle with your choice of seven phrases printed on it from the golfing classic movie "Caddyshack." The coin will replace the need for repeated flips of a tee or an over-the-shoulder ball toss to determine the tee off.
