How to Compare Golf Balls

Golfers are always looking for ways to drop their scores, and what golf balls they use is an often overlooked component. Players must know what they want out of balls, and take their playing levels into consideration in choosing the best ones. Golf balls have different cores, which lead to varying results, and a player should know how balls come off his clubs before purchasing one that will help lower his score.

Instructions

    • 1

Hit a mixed bag of balls during a practice round.

    • 2

Play each ball in different situations to get a feel of how it releases from contact with the club.

    • 3

Record notes on how each ball comes off the faces of your clubs, whether it's long or short, or hooked or sliced. How long it takes the ball to stop after contact with the ground is also an important aspect.

    • 4

Evaluate the results from your round. Compare how each ball interacted with your swing and clubs to figure out which ball best suits your needs.
