How to Soup Up Golf Carts

Golf carts are most often the transportation of the leisurely and patient on the golf course. Built for a slow day on the links, those in need of a little more speed can also use carts. While most carts are restricted by factory settings, you can soup up your golf cart to get it to move as fast as 20-25 miles per hour.

Instructions

    • 1

Add larger tires to your cart. Remove the bolts on the old tires and bolt in the new ones. This will allow your cart to move faster, covering more ground with the same size engine.

    • 2

Adjust the governor within the cart's engine, located just next to the cylinders of the carburetor. Lift the seat and expose the T-shaped metal rod near the top of the engine. Push the metal rods toward the carburetor as far as possible and fasten them there, to defeat the speed restrictions of the governor.

    • 3

Remove the restrictor underneath the cart's gas pedal with a wrench and screwdriver. It takes the form of a stick that restricts you from pressing the pedal all the way. Removing the restrictor will allow you to depress the pedal completely.

    • 4

Install a new engine if you still want more speed. This is a complicated process best left to those with automotive or mechanical experience, but will allow your cart to achieve its maximum speed.
