How to Calculate Handicap Differential
Handicap differential is a calculation used to determine your handicap in golf. The formula for your handicap differential is score minus course rating, then multiply the difference by 113. Finally divide the result by the slope rating. The slope rating and course rating are different measures of how hard the golf course is. These are not calculated, but you can look these up online or ask when you are at the golf course how it is rated.

1
Determine your score on the course, the course rating and the slope rating for the course. For example, assume you shoot a 90 on a course rated 80. The slope rating is 120.
-
2
Subtract the course rating from your score. In the example, 90 minus 80 equals 10.
-
3
Multiply the result in Step 2 by 113. In the example, 10 times 113 equals 1,130.
-
4
Divide the number calculated in Step 3 by the slope rating. In the example, 1,130 divided by 120 equals a handicap differential of 9.4167.
