1
Remember what sports or activities your child liked most or excelled in during childhood. Many love affairs with sports start when kids are young and playing on the playground or outside the house. See if they are still interested in those sports and, if they are any good, these are sports to consider.

2
Talk to your teen the summer before she transitions into high school. What activities does she see herself doing? Is he going to continue a sport from middle school or does he want to try something new? Let her express her interests to you.
-
3
Attend some of the games or practices in their sport before tryouts. Take the opportunity to introduce your child or encourage them to introduce themselves to the coach and other team members to form relationships.
-
4
Get the tryout schedule and encourage your child to try out. Offer to be there for support if he would like or just wish him the best, if he is more independent. The point is to help your student feel comfortable and confident in a somewhat stressful situation.
