Types of Hockey Tape
-
Function
-
Tape is used to cover both the blade and handle of a hockey stick. It can also be used to secure loose equipment, such as shin pads.
White Cloth Tape
-
White cloth tape is one of the most popular varieties of hockey tape. It can be used for almost any function.
Black Friction Tape
-
Friction tape is a cloth tape that has adhesive on both sides of the tape. The extra adhesive creates a moisture barrier between the stick and the ice, making it last longer. Friction tape is only used on the blade of the hockey stick.
Colored Cloth Tape
-
Cloth tape also comes in a wide array of colors, including black, red, blue, pink and green. This type of tape can be used just like plain white cloth tape. It doesn't have any advantages over plain white cloth tape, other than for decorative purposes.
Clear Plastic Tape
-
Clear plastic hockey tape is used for the sole purpose of taping shin guards to a player's legs so that they don't shift while skating. This type of tape is preferred because it is clear, and thus, not noticeable from a distance.
Size
-
Hockey tape is traditionally 1 inch wide and comes in rolls of 30 feet.
